The Whirlpool Galaxy, also known as Messier 51a, M51a, and NGC 5194, is an interacting grand-design spiral galaxy with a Seyfert 2 active galactic nucleus. It lies in the constellation Canes Venatici, and was the first galaxy to be classified as a spiral galaxy. Its distance is 31 million light-years from Earth.
After weeks of cloud Mick and I got together for an imaging session in his backyard as the meteorologists forecast a few hours of clear sky. We waited and checked everything twice. Looked like the clouds were not going to clear. 10 minutes later, Mick had polar aligned and was calibrating his guiding. Great shot of the awesome Whirlpool Galaxy. The FLT132 with 1:1 Field Flattener performed brilliantly. Stacked and processed in APP with minor tweaks in photoshop.
